Search a language dictionary.
Search
Use these fields to configure your search.
The input language indicates the language you are lookup up.
The output language indicates the language or languages you want the meaning displayed in.
The text edit box is where you enter the pattern(s) you want to lookup.
Click the "Search" button to do the lookup.
The "Match type" control allows you to indicate how the search pattern is used.
"Exact" tries to match the whole item.
"Starts With" matches entries that start with the item.
"Ends With" matches entries that end with the item.
"Contains" matches entries that contain the item.
"Reg Ex" matches entries using a standard regular expression pattern.
"Parse Best" lookup multiple words in best-matching phrase or sentence.
"Parse All" lookup all possible words in a phrase or sentence.
In regular expressions, use '^' at the beginning to match the start, '$' at the end to match the end, '.*' to match any sequence, '.' to match one character.

The local/remote checkboxes determine whether to lookup dictionary or media in the local database or remotely on the server. The latter requires an internet connection.

About "Resources"
"Resources" is for various additional tool for language learning.
About "Dictionary Search"
The "Dictionary Search" page is for looking up items in the dictionary.
Check or un-check "Show Options" to show or hide the dictionary search and display parameters.
Select "Input" and "Output" languages, enter the text to search for in the "Lookup" field, select a "Match Type", and click "Search" to do the lookup. Note that you can search for multiple items by entering the items in separate rows. Enable or disable the audio play buttons or pictures via the "Audio" and "Pictures"
check boxes.
Any items matching the search criteria are displayed in a table below the "Search" panel. If the dictionary items have audio files associated with them, "Play audio" and "Play audio slow" buttons will be displayed. Dictionary entries may include example sentences. Add dictionary item components to courses or
plans using the the "Add to course or plan" buttons on the right.
Note that since the dictionary is cooperatively provided, the items you search for might not be present yet. Some public domain libraries have been uploaded, such as for Chinese Mandarin and Japanese. If you are a teacher, you can add dictionary entries using the "Edit Dictionary" page accessible via the "Edit dictionary" button link at the bottom.
